Description:
The SmartView Multiscreen expands the horizons of computer control by adding multiple monitor support to an advanced KVM switch. The SmartView range of KVM (Keyboard, Video monitor, Mouse) switches are known for their robust and reliable operation and have been trusted by many to provide problem free control of multiple computers. The Multiscreen is a new concept in KVM switches and enables you to benefit from all the convenience of the proven SmartView switches whilst taking advantage of the multiple monitor facilities available on many modern computers. Computers fitted with multiple video cards are becoming more common as operating systems have developed to make use of the extended video "real estate" offered by multiple monitors. The increased display area enables more information to be presented to the user without reducing the resolution. The Multiscreen enables several computers equipped with these multiple video facilities to be controlled from a keyboard, mouse and an array of monitors. All the monitors and the keyboard and mouse are switched together from one computer to the next giving you full control of the wider picture. Like all SmartView switches, the Multiscreen maximises the video quality by minimising any ghosting, smudging or fading effects. Consequently, excellent video clarity is maintained even at higher screen resolutions. DDC (Display Data Channel) signalling is supported on all the SmartView's video ports making them "plug-and-play" compatible and enabling your computers' video cards to be configured for best performance. The SmartView recognises the importance of quick and easy channel switching by providing features that simplify the computer selection process. The keyboard hotkey sequences are designed for quick-fire operation and the mouse may be used to "flick through" active computers with minimal hand movements. Ease of use is further enhanced by the optional remote controller which enables a very neat installation whilst keeping you in full control.
Features:
The SmartView provides a wide range of useful features including:
Specification:
Enables a keyboard, mouse and 4 monitors to control 2 computers.
Connectors
All connectors are rear mounted to ensure a neat installation and are colour coded according to the PC99 specification (keyboard=violet, mouse=green, video=blue) for easy identification. Keyboard and mouse ports use 6-pin mini-DIN female connectors. Video ports use standard 15-way high-density D-type connectors. Options port uses 15-way standard D-type connector with proprietary pin allocation. DC power connector provided for video-only and other special applications where interface powering is not possible.
Controls
Computer selection
Computers may be selected using the front panel key, keyboard hotkeys, a three button mouse or wheel mouse, RS232 data commands or the optional remote controller. The hotkeys are selectable and are designed to be quick-fire using a minimum number of key presses. The mouse may be used to select the next or previous computer by holding down the centre button whilst pressing the left or right button. Both keyboard hotkey and mouse switching may be independently disabled if required. When cycling through channels using the mouse or the hotkeys the user may configure the SmartView to select all ports or just the ports that have powered PCs attached. RS232 switching is useful for automated operation and the remote controller provides a convenient control method without locating the SmartView on the desk.
Operation mode
The keyboard, mouse and all the video heads are switched together so that the keyboard and mouse are controlling the computer whose video is currently displayed on the monitors.
Synchronised switching
SmartView Multiscreens may be linked together via their options ports to provide synchronised switching of 8,12 or 16 video channels controlled from one master unit.
Keyboard ports
PS/2 or AT style keyboards supported. PS/2 keyboards plug in directly. AT keyboards require a 6-pin mini-DIN to 5-pin DIN adapter. Automatic mode emulation and num / caps / scroll updates ensures that the keyboard is always in the expected state. Modes 1,2 and 3 are supported for full compatibility. Keyboard data is kept in its native format to ensure support for additional web control, hot media and other extra keys.
Mouse ports
The controlling PS/2 style mouse plugs directly into the SmartView. SmartView supports 2 and 3 button mice and most wheel and scroll mice including the Microsoft IntelliMouse and IntelliMouse Explorer. PS/2 or RS232 mouse connections to computers may be made in any combination. RS232 mice require an additional cabling adapter (VSA1). Prompt and stream mode support ensures compatibility with desktop and laptop PCs. 3 button mice or wheel mice may optionally be used to switch the SmartView's channel. Continuous port emulation on non-selected ports ensures problem free computer bootup.
Video ports
High bandwidth video supported at resolutions up to 1920 x 1440. Low distortion and excellent video transfer characteristic. Supports VGA / SVGA / XGA / XGA-2 / SXGA and UXGA video and VESA DDC1 and DDC2 signalling. Screen saver feature with user selectable "kick in" time.
Upgradeability
Flash upgradeable to support new devices by connecting a computer's serial port to the options port and running a download program.
Software and hardware compatibility
Software independent operation ensures very wide compatibility that includes Windows 3.X, WFWG, 95, 98, 2000, NT, ME, XP, DOS, Unix, Linux, NetWare, OS/2 and BSD. Hardware compatible with desktop and laptop PCs, RS6000, SGI and DEC Alphas.
Optional remote controller
